i was excited when my brother-in-law told me they were visiting me here in Jakarta a few months back. 2 months prior their arrival i have already filed a one day leave and luckily that weekend was a holiday so i had 3 full free days with them. *happy dance*
This was not their first time here in Jakarta. They were able to visit me last May 2013. You can read more about their first trip here.
Since their trip was only for 3 full days, i have planned to squeezed in one day for an out of town trip and the rest was to be spent staycationing in Jakarta.
That said, it was a bit hard for me to come up with a day trip adventure out of Jakarta given the limited time and something that would be interesting for them to see. I have consulted some local and pinoy friends where to bring them and they agreed to my suggestion to bring them to a volcano crater in Bandung BUT insisted to keep the itinerary light as traffic would be terrible during weekend especially holidays.
So, after much planning of their 3 days itinerary, i came up with a final plan: 1 day in Bandung and 2 days in Jakarta. Thus, i'll be making chika about our Bandung trip and will have a separate entry about our Jakarta staycation.
Getting To/From/Around
I have rented a private car with driver to bring us to Bandung. Moreover, I have rented at the same car rental office for the duration of the entire vacation; including Bandung, around Jakarta, pick up and drop off in the airport. I wouldn't disclose the entire amount as my family might be reading this (hahaha!) so let me share the estimated car rental expense for our bandung trip. It was around ~300,000 - 400,000 IDR including the driver BUT excluding gas and toll fees.
I friend of mine asked how to commute going to Kawah Putih (via instagram). The clueless me then sought help from one of my friends who commuted reaching there. This was his response: "Sa
bandung, go to leuwi panjan terminal, then sakay van na maliit going to
ciwidey. Sa terminal ng ciwidey, may angkot sakay sya ng Ciwidey -
Rancabali – Situ Patengan. Tapos baba sya sa kawa putih entrance."
Timeline and PhotoDiary
5:30 am - left Jakarta
9:30 am - reached Kopo, Bandung and had brunch at a random warung
1:30 pm - reached Kawah Putih
Yes, you read it right! we reached the place after 8 hours of traveling. Terrible traffic was an understatement. Que horror!
So, Kawah Putih...
According to Wikipedia (which is the only english source i could find): "Kawah Putih is a striking crater lake and tourist spot in a
volcanic crater about 50 km south of Bandung in West Java in Indonesia.
Kawah Putih lake is one of the two craters which make up Mount Patuha,
an andesitic stratovolcano."
Entrance fee for each visitor is 17,000 IDR. If you ever decide to bring your car to the parking lot of the crater itself, you have to pay 150,000 IDR. You can find more details about Kawah Putih here.
TIP: a loud speaker will constantly announce (in Bahasa Indonesia) that it is recommended to stay a maximum of 15 minutes because of the sulfuric gas from the crater. You'll see some people selling rip off priced surgical masks. You don't have to buy. Just take note of the time.
2:00 pm - left Kawah Putih
7:30 pm - Rumah Mode outlet in Bandung Town Proper
Yes, it took us another 5 hours to reached Bandung proper. Jeskelerd. This was our last stop for the trip. Obviously.
Anyway, i really made sure to drop by to this outlet to shop for my upcoming winter trip. plus, it was also a shopping experience for the Saculo Family.
8:30 pm - travel back to Jakarta
whew!
#OOTD
i have predicted that it was going to be a long and hot travel experience so i opted to wear something casual and breezy and i also injected summer-y color in the whole look. I should have brought a hat but settled with just my sunnies. I know it was too much for a volcano crater trip BUT traveling, despite a short road trip, is always a reason to dress up. hehe.
cropped top: j.rep | skirt: sunter mall | purse: longchamp | sandals: nine west | watch: marc jacobs | sunnies: mango
Last Thoughts About Bandung, Indonesia
After wasting the almost entire day just for traveling, i don't think i'll be visiting this place again. It was good enough for the first time and bringing my family BUT that's it. The traffic was so terrible, it was borderline hopeless. I swear.
Anyway, despite the ranting, there were only 2 things that made me happy: 1) roadtrip with fambam and 2)rumah mode shopping. Too bad, my youngest niece wasn't able to join them in visiting here but made up with tons of pasalubong for her, which i'll be talking more on our Jakarta staycation entry.
Rumah mode is for me the best outlet store in Bandung. Massive collection and up to date choices. I was able to score a complete winter outfit for less than 1 juta IDR.
Special shout out to BEX for joining us in this road trip and taking some of our travel shots.
Next, my favorite activity in Jakarta: Staycationing. :)
