Santa Monica, California: A Spur of the Moment Date Night

July 30, 2014

This was a spur of the moment date night. The Boyfriend who initially planned on bringing me to LA downtown, decided last minute to just drive to Santa Monica Pier. He believed it was a nice idea. Well, will get to that later. haha!

The drive was scenic albeit the dizzy-causing winding road. After driving through the mountain side road, we were welcomed by the beach view. It was Malibu beach. We then continue driving whilst i was i looking lustily to the beach houses. haha! Since our destination was the Santa Monica Pier, it took us a while to look for a parking. We then settled on just parking at the expensive parking lot beside the pier.

Given our destination, i can honestly say I was not appropriately dressed to the place. It was a chilly late afternoon and i was wearing backless dress with no cover up. Plus, i was wearing pointed flats which i have been wearing the entire the day which made my feet ached like shit. I don't want to sound like an ungrateful girlfriend because of his effort so i mustered up all my strength and pegged "tiis ganda". hahahahaha! I was whining a bit but The Boyfriend was very understanding. hehe.

We actually didn't have any dinner plans so The Boyfriend checked his favorite app, Yelp, for ideas. He suggested Umami Burger which was 30 minutes walk from the Pier. He was looking at me questioningly if i could walk for 30 minutes given my feet condition. And i was like "Let's do this." hahaha!

We actually got lost. hahaha! It took us a while to find the place. The place was full. You have to wait to get a table. In all fairness, the wait wasn't that long. We were seated after 15 minutes. This was my first time to try umami burger and i was excited. hahaha!

I ordered the truffle burger while The Boyfriend ordered The Royale (i think). we also their smushed potatoes as starters. Overall the  burger was yummy! But i fell in love with their ketchup. As in! aaaack! Apparently they make their own ketchup. *drools*

After our sumptuous dinner, we walked happily going back to the parking lot. haha! 30 minutes walk was a breeze. I guess the hunger added to my whining reasons. I was not "hangry" anymore. haha!

Last Thoughts About Santa Monica

If i'll have the chance to go back, i would love to explore the pier more and hang out at the beach. That said, hopefully in my next visit i would be looking more beach-y appropriate to Santa Monica. So it means it has to be a planned trip. haha!

Kudos to The Boyfriend for making our date night a special one. It's not always that we can have a road trip as a date. Thank you sweetheart. [insert cheesy]
