Las Vegas, Nevada: THE Roadtrip

July 31 - August 1, 2014

This leg of my trip was not planned at all. This was by far the most random and craziest thing The Boyfriend had ever planned since i arrived in US.

At 2 am, he nudged me from my sleep and asked me to go to Vegas in the morning and spend one night in a hotel. I was like, "are you serious?" We then looked for hotels but i told him to sleep on it first and in the morning we'll decide. 6 am, i woke him up to ask if he was still serious about the vegas trip. He said yes, so i booked our hotel for 1 night. At 7 am, we left to run some errands then off we go to Vegas.

The drive took us 4 hours. We took the desert route. I don't know why but we did. It was so hot. Temperature ranges from around ~99 - ~101 degrees.

We passed through the mojave desert and death valley. It was eerie and exciting at the same time.

Moving on, we arrived Las Vegas strip at around 3 pm. We had a in-n-out drive thru enroute to the long drive which served as our late lunch. hehe.

ACCOMMODATION

I booked our hotel, New York New York Hotel, via Agoda. The total value for one night was US $68.27 but since i still had agoda points, i only paid US $43.27 [insert happy dance]

Check in was a hassle. the receptionist refused to acknowledge our booking as according to her it was not in their system. She asked me to contact agoda regarding our booking. I spent the next several minutes on the phone talking to a customer service officer discussing our case, which the officer informed me that our booking pushed thru. The snooty hotel receptionist was not very accommodating. Fortunately, another hotel receptionist (A pinay!) helped us with our booking. She called their office about our booking and it was there. Finally.

PROs
  • within the Vegas strip
  • relatively clean room
  • comfy bed
  • good deal!!!
CONs
  • snooty hotel receptionist
  • old room
  • hotel toiletries were almost non existent

Since we don't have any itinerary at hand, we just decided to research the best buffet in Vegas for our dinner date after we checked in. We narrowed it down to 3: Caesar's Palace, Wynn and Bellagio. After much pondering, The Boyfriend decided to try Bacchanal Buffet at Caesar's Palace.

We walked along the strip to reach Caesar Palace. My gawd, it was so hot. dry heat to the nth level. I felt like i was inside an oven. No kid. I was whining to The Boyfriend that i need water but being his crazy self told me to hang on til we sit down to eat. kainis. haha!

The queue was so long. like more than an hour wait. nakakaloka. Crazy.

but first, let us take a selfie(s) hahaha!

After 10 years (choz!) we were finally given a table and then we started piling our plates with dishes. I am not a fan of buffet because i don't eat that much. However, i am a dessert fan so i was looking forward to the dessert selection.

Anyway, i didn't have any particular favorite from the buffet dishes. From what i remember, The Boyfriend only liked their crab legs. Other than that, the rest were unremarkable.

as for the dessert spread, being a dessert lover and cake monster, i was disappointed. nothing caught my interest. too bad.

we were so full from the buffet so we decided to walk around the strip before going back to our hotel.

We went to The Mirage Hotel to check out The Beatles Store. Too bad it was already closed when we arrived so The Boyfriend decided just to have photo ops with the Beatles wall.

The fifth beatle. daw. echosero. haha!

Thankfully, the climate was way better at night than the day. Walking around the strip was more bearable. However, it was still too hot for me that i actually asked iced water in Starbucks and it has been the source of energy. hahaha!

me and my iced water. hahaha!

I am a fan of water fountain shows. Prior to this vegas trip, the best water fountain show that i watched was in Macau. But OMG, Bellagio fountain show was the bee's knees! it was so amazing! i think this was my favorite experience in this Vegas trip. This was by far the best fountain show i have ever watched.

On the following day, we checked out and headed to a nearby souvenir shop. We then met one of The Boyfriend's friends over lunch. We had an authentic mexican grub for lunch.

After lunch, it was time for us to head back to LA. This time we took the highway route as we were meeting The Boyfriend's relatives.

Last Thoughts About Las Vegas, Nevada

I have experienced humid climate most of my life. Moreover, i was fortunate enough to experience winter as well. But, dry heat? Man, it was something else. I wasn't prepared for this shit. hahaha! It really sucks the energy out of you, which sadly happened to me during our vegas trip.

Looking back, i am disappointed for only experiencing a fraction of fun for which the Vegas offers. I haven't done the hotel hopping experience, watching a vegas show, clubbing and the list goes on. Ack.

Anyway, despite the lack of vegas activities that we have experienced, this trip was THE Roadtrip. The pivotal point of my entire US trip.
