Australia Winter [2012]: Adelaide, South Australia

Aug. 18 - 23, 2012

aaand i'm back to land down under! it was kinda not planned. i was just sure of everything 2 months before this trip and i kinda panicked again just like the first time. haha!

i was actually lemming to have unfussy yet nice experience this time around. adding to the fact that it was winter, a hibernate season, so i was actually looking forward to a low key holiday . And i was over to the moon when my my girlfriends in Adelaide prepared everything for this trip. they even took leaves from work just to spend a week with me. all i have to do is show up! haha! i'm that lucky! haha!

My adelaide trip was divided into 3 itineraries: kangaroo island, mclaren vale tour and adelaide city.

FIRST NIGHT

after more than 24 hours of traveling including a tiring stopover, delayed flight and a heavy carry on, it was a great idea to grab dinner to catch up with an old friend and just drink the night away. hahaha! actually, i was too wind up that time and i was kinda in a zombie mode but of course, a nice full glass jack coke cured the zombie-ness. heehee.

KANGAROO ISLAND

this trip was organized by Crezyl. from accommodation, places to explore, food, booze and everything else. it was perfect! thank you pogs!

Getting To/From/Around

From Crezyl and Sean's place we traveled via car to reach the ferry port in Cape Jervis for the 9 am trip via Sealink ferry and then we took the 4:30 pm trip back after 3 days.

Ferry experience was ok. it took 45 minutes to an hour to reach the island. and we used sean's car to drive around kangaroo island.

Accommodation

We stayed in Island Breeze cottage which was approximately 500 meters from Vivonne Bay Beach.

"Island Breeze is a luxurious, private, fully appointed house that has been designed to provide a relaxing holiday and tranquil setting with easy access to the major attractions of Kangaroo Island. It has an open plan lounge, dine and kitchen, together with two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed. Island Breeze is approximately 500 metres from beautiful Vivonne Bay beach, voted in 2003 the best beach in Australia. The beach provides stunning views, safe swimming and surfing as well as good fishing. Vivonne Bay is at the centre of the major tourist attractions including Seal Bay, Kelly Hill Caves, Admirals Arch, Little Sahara, Remarkable Rocks and Flinders Chase. Local wildlife includes possums and wallabies that can be fed from the
deck, sea lions at the jetty, dolphins, whales in the winter months, echidnas, goannas, beautiful blue wrens and kangaroos."

the cottage was sooo nice! a rustic look but with a homey feeling. there was even wallabies roaming around at night. cool!

All Terrain Quad Bike Adventure

the most rugged adventure i have done in my entire OZ trip. it was exhilarating and fun! a bit expensive but it was worth it! for a coordinately challenged person that i am, that experience was sooo cool! must try!!!!!

Kingscote

Largest town in Kangaroo Island where we had lunch on our 1st and last day in the island. i forgot the name of the restaurant where we dined it but the view was so fantastic. if only it wasn't winter, i have probably frolicked around the beach already. haha!

Kelly Hill Cave

if you're the type who loves caves, stalactites, stalagmites and all that stuff, you'll love kelly hill cave! better yet, try their caving experience. heehee.

Cape Willoughby

Our last Stop before heading back to the ferry terminal on our 3rd day. the place was so serene, cool and kinda creepy in a way that it felt like it's at the end side of the world. haha! it was so windy i felt like i can be blown by the wind like a leaf. no kidding! haha! still, it was gorgeous!

**cute photo ahead**

stopped by at the road to have a quick photo ops with the lovely flowers. spring was in the air!!!

Mclaren Vale and more

we were originally planned to visit Barossa Valley but since we were tired from our Kangaroo Island trip and waking up very early was next to impossible, we changed it to having winery tour around Mclaren Vale instead.

I love winery tours! i love wine! the first time i went to a winery tour, i tasted almost everything the tour has to offer. haha! surprisingly this time, not so much! haha!

Filo Family Get Together

after our Mclaren Vale adventure we head back to Adelaide as i was spending the night at Jen's place. her housemate, Ritchi, a fellow filo, cooked yummy sinigang and monggo guisado for dinner. the dishes were good enough for a small feast, thus, more Filo were invited to come over for dinner and spent the night eating, drinking and a whole lot of chikahan! it was like a sort of welcome get together for me! i was touched and humbled. it was truly a memorable night. :)

Final Thoughts about Adelaide

Adelaide will always have a special place in my heart. i always have good memories every time i get to visit. lucky for me to have awesome girlfriends to spoil me rotten. i can't wait to visit again!

Again, thank you to Crezyl, Sean, Jen and the rest of the Filo family for the awesome time. kisses, loves!
