Indonesia Chronicles: Breaking of Fast

August 16, 2011

This month started the fasting season for Muslims. In Ramadhan Season, Muslim also breaks their fast but the breaking of fast happens after the sun has set, which i think around 6:00 in the evening. to know more of their sacred ritual, you can read it here: Ramadan

In line with this, There's an annual breaking of fast occasion at the office. It is celebrated with getting together of everyone at work and some potluck food feast.

In our office we celebrated the breaking of fast at the front office (Pharmacy Area). local foods were served and we witnessed the prayer of my Muslim co-workers prior to breaking of fast.

Everyone had fun and i was soooo full from too much eating. food choices were overwhelming.

Intermed Staff

our foodies for the occasion...

mie goreng (pancit canton)

ayam goreng (fried chicken)

ikan asin ("danggit" - salted fish)

sayur lalap (cucumber, lettuce, sayote)

tahu goreng (fried tofu)

pisang molen (banana empanada)

bakwan goreng (fried veggies)

pisang goreng (banana fritters)

pisang goreng (banana fritters - smaller version)

tempe goreng (fried soya bean)

sate ayam (chicken barbeque in peanut sauce)

pudding (gelatin with cream and fruits)

mixed fruits (pineapple, manggo)

with Pa-iwan :)

It was actually nice to experience this type of occasion. Growing up in a Catholic Country limits my exposure with other religions. And now, living in a totally different place widens my understanding of different traditions, cultures and religions.

Traveling is indeed the best life teacher :)
