California Foodtrip: A Photodiary

Travel Dates: December 21, 2014 - January 6, 2015

This is my last entry about my USA holiday trip. Life has been crazy the past weeks, thus, a very very late post. Moreover, i am skipping the Napa Valley trip report for now due to some undisclosed reason but will definitely post it in the near future.

Anyway, this past trip of mine wasn't hectic like before. There were days of downtime. And when i say downtime, a big chunk of my day was spent stuffing my face with food. I literally ate more than 3 times a day. Imagine that. hahaha!

My instagram was full of food images the entire time i was in the states. I definitely lived up the #fuckdiet trend.

spell FAT = M.A.D.E.L.

Let me share some places i've tried for the first time in [SoCal] California.

Porto's Bakery

Our first stop as soon as i set foot to states. We went to Burbank branch and the queue was endless. I got giddy to the thought of cake-all-i-want-welcome-treat. haha! It was hard to choose but i made sure i ordered cheese rolls. Man, these were the best cheese rolls i have ever tasted. Cakes, on the other hand, were so-so.

cheese rolls at the right. craving right now. wah.

California Pizza Kitchen

after a long morning of shopping. we had our late lunch in one of the CPK chains. I had the four cheese ravioli. it was yummy and filling!

yum yum!

Denny's Diner

I have always been curious about this diner since i saw plenty of branches all over the states. Since i have tried ihop last visit, i planned on trying this place the next visit. So after our movie date, we had our very very late dinner at a branch near to our place.

I ordered breakfast meal, scrambled egg, french toast and bacon. We likewise had nachos for starters. I loved how messy and yummy the nachos were but for my meal, it was too greasy and looked unappealing.

Bob Hope Airport

I have completely forgotten the name of the restaurant i had breakfast before my seattle flight in burbank airport, but it did satisfy my bacon craving. hehe.

bacon!

Sanam Luang

After our long travel from Vancouver to Marysville to Seattle to Los Angeles with a San Francisco lay over, I was so tired and hungry and was craving for something filling and familiar. Thus, i was brought here. I don't know if i was just that hungry or everything was truly delish.

you can never go wrong with thai food

Marmalade Cafe at The Commons

one of the few instances wherein i dined alone. I had pasta for late lunch and finished everything in my plate. yum!

right: garlic shrimp linguini

The Cheesecake Factory

There were several cheesecake choices at the Barne and Noble bookshop at The Commons. Since i haven't had a desert after my lunch, i decided to get one as a desert/snack to munch on for our roadtrip enroute to San Francisco. I must say it was soooo yummy that one slice was not enough.

cookie dough cheesecake is the bomb!

Panda Express and Jamba Juice

Again, it was one of those times i have to eat by myself. I decided to dine at the food court and contemplated what to have for late lunch. it was a toss up between chinese and mexican. I went for the former. Moreover, i have always been curious about jamba juice. I ordered something familiar fruits combination and it was good.

finished in one sitting. bow.

That's the way the cookie crumbles

I was on a search for something sweet when i saw this stand while walking around the mall. Of course i have to try it. the ice cream sandwich consisted of 2 cookies and 2 ice creams. A dollop of whipped was added to cap off the perfection. This shouldn't be shared. I repeat. No sharing. haha!

brownie cookies + pistachio ice cream + butterscotch ice cream + whipped cream = diabetes waiting to happen

Pho So 1

I had panda express for late lunch, desert at That's the way the cookie crumbles and then after few hours of walking, we went to Pho So 1 for dinner. In a span of let's say 5 hours, i had 3 meals. OMG. haha!

You can never go wrong with Vietnamese food. i bet there are other more sumptuous food than what i have ordered but for me, it was so nice to eat pork once in a while. hehe.

pork chops!!!

Umami Burger

It was my second time to try umami burger in Santa Monica, and this time i spent it with The Boyfriend's relatives. Just like the first time, umami burger was yummy! I loved the thin fries!

the original umami burger

Here are some photos while walking around santa monica...

i love the vibe of santa monica!

I was so grateful for them for bringing me to The Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was crowded but it was nice to finally experience being a tourist in hollywood. haha!

can you see the hollywood sign!

Dr. Hogly Wogly

a texas bbq in L.A. I am not really a bbq fan but i enjoyed it still. I did make sure to have a dessert to cap off the bbq experience. this was actually my first time to try pecan pie. the pie was too soft and a big chunks of pecans are on top of the pie. This is best paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. yum!

Mayflower Seafood Restaurant

This was my first trip to chinatown in L.A. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this restaurant was full of manny pacquiao photos. I was told that Pacman frequently eats here every time he is in L.A. and the owner, Mr. Haha is a big fan of him.

A lot of Filipinos dine here and i was glad to experience dining here. Moreover, this dining experience was extra special because The Boyfriend's uncle specifically ordered a pork dish because he felt that i would be missing pork a lot once i return to Indonesia. So sweet of him.

The Birthday Girl

I have spent my birthday here in california with The Boyfriend. One of the simplest birthday celebrations i had. He surprised me with cake and flowers, then we had a simple italian dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy. We didn't stay up late as i was catching a flight the following day.

i guess as i grow older my preference in celebrating birthdays has become simple and quiet. I am grateful that even in a simplest way of celebrating my birthday this, i was able to enjoy it through traveling and spending quality time with the person i love the most.
