Puerto Princesa, Palawan: A Gastronomical Review

Nov. 25 - 28, 2010

since there was a LOT of recommended restaurants to try in palawan, i made sure to include almost all of them on our itinerary. some were yummy, some were so-so. took pictures of almost everything we tried.

disclaimer: i'm no food critic and my reviews are based on my own personal preferences

let's start...

HAIM'S INATO

budget: ~400 php
actual expense: 400 php
note: there were 3 of us (me,boyfie and kuya rolly)
what we ordered: chicken inato, ripe mango shake and strawberry pearl shake
overall verdict: same taste with other inasal chicken.

Ka lui

budget: ~600 php
actual expense: 534 php (with service charge)
note: 10% service charge is not include; they also accept card payment
what we ordered: ka lui special set of the day (good for two), mango shake, bukonut (coconut drink)
overall verdict: food was so - so. i think you're actually paying for the ambiance and not really the food.

Bona's Chaolong

budget: ~200 php
actual expense: 170 php
note: the place is a carideria type but clean
what we ordered: special beef stew with noodles, french bread with pork, french bread with tuna, 12 oz coke (each)
overall verdict:noodles were just ok. i like the french bread with tuna. the bread is crunchy at the outside and soft in the inside.

Balinsasayaw

budget: ~600 php
actual expense: 407 php
note: accepts card payment
what we ordered: pork sisig, half order of seafood chowder, pork liempo with rice, tangigue ala pobre with rice, softdrinks
overall verdict: overrated. too expensive. kinda like gerry's/dencio's. food was so - so. we were even seated at the far end of their second floor.

Itoy's

budget: ~300 php
actual expense: 370 php
note: card payment is down that time, free wifi for 1 hour
what we ordered: i forgot boyfie's order. ordered caramel butterscotch latte, leche flan cheesecake, mango cheesecake
overall verdict: i like thier butterscotch caramel latte, sweet for my likeness and no need for sugar. for their cakes, didn't enjoy it. the cheesecake is not that creamy.

Kinabuch

budget: ~700 php
actual expense: 507 php (with service charge)
note: 10% service charge is not inclusive; accepts card payment. i forgot to take pictures of the place and menu because we were so tired and sleepy from the tour
what we ordered: soup, set meal, sizzling seafood sisig, calamares
overall verdict: better than balinsasayaw. we liked the sizzling sisig seafood. calamares and set meals tasted just fine. waiters were attentive maybe because there were few costumers that night.

Badjao Seafront Restaurant

budget: ~800 php
actual expense: 687 php (with service charge)
note: 10% service charge is not inclusive; accepts card payment
what we ordered: clam soup, set meal, sizzling seafood sisig, calamares
overall verdict: yummy but expensive. we liked the lumpiang palawan. it was like a mashed of something (maybe fish) wrapped in a lumpia wrapper. staff were not really that attentive to us that time.

what we ordered: iced tea, cookies and cream frappuccino,  blueberry cheesecake
overall verdict: their blueberry cheesecake is yummy! creamy and not the gelatin-y type. didn't really like their iced tea.
