Staycation Bandung: Easter Weekend 2014

April 18 - 20, 2014

*late post*

Holy week getaway has always been something i look forward to at the start of the year. I am fortunate that my work always make it a long weekend despite being in a Muslim Country. Anyhow, i initially planned on going overseas but due to unpredictable timeline of events, i opted to just stay within the country for the long weekend. I chose Bandung because 1) easy commute 2) a bit familiar to me 3) near yet far from Jakarta. Moreover, i'm too lazy to do any activities so i planned on just having a staycation experience in Bandung.

My friend (Rome) accompanied me to this trip. It is somewhat our weird tradition to travel to Bandung together at least annually. She stayed for one night while i decided to extend and spend 2 nights in Bandung. More of that later.

 welcome to Bandung!

GETTING TO/FROM/AROUND

Jakarta to Bandung (RT) via Xtrans Shuttle - 75,000 IDR/one way

* Lucky to have a nearby terminal from my apartment. travel time is 3 - 4 hours depending on the traffic.

TIP: book in advance especially on holidays and confirm your booking when you reach Bandung terminal.

Around Bandung via Taxi - RIP off!

* this experience irked me the most. almost all the taxis never used meter and charge minimum ~20,000 IDR for short distance trips.

  • breakfast choices are unremarkable

ACTIVITIES

Since this is a staycation, we basically ate our way to the entire weekend. hahaha!

late lunch at the hotel. must try, soto ayam!!!

went to Bandung for pizza hut. hahaha!

checked out the hotel's bar/lounge. exorbitant prices for drinks. boo!

Secret Factory outlet for shopping and late lunch again at the hotel

room service at quiet evening on my last night

I likewise went to Kartika Sari at their Dago branch to buy the famous brownies of Bandung as my oleh oleh to friends. Too many people shopping but thankfully queue at the cash register was short.
TIP: bring booze (and snacks) to your hotel of choice as drinks in bars and lounges are very expensive.

Final Thoughts About Bandung

I like bandung. It's my go-to place every time i see myself leaving Jakarta for a little while. Despite the irritating taxi experience of my trip, the entire staycation was pleasant. It was a mind calming and tummy-filling getaway.
