Singapore: Business and Pleasure

April 21 - 24, 2012

I was fortunate enough to be sent in Singapore to attend a two - day seminar in relation to my profession. The good thing about this trip was that i was able to squeeze in more than a day to shop, dine, catch up with friends and a whole lot more! Every minute was well spent. :)

work and play

Since it was a mix of work and play, this entry won't be as comprehensive as my other travel entries.

So here goes...

ACCOMMODATION

I was given an allowance for my accommodation expenses. I was so picky with my choices as Singapore accommodations have pretty steep rates. So after much thought, i finally booked Value Hotel Balestier via Agoda for 2 nights.

note: i stayed at my friend's place on my first night. Thank you amors! :)

PROs
  • conveniently located!!!! (bus 124 is in front of the hotel enroute to orchard road)
  • clean and comfortable room
  • easy check - in and check - out
  • free wifi (ask reception for your room's password. it changes daily so you have to ask everytime)
  • relatively safe (i stayed here alone)
CONs
  • some cab drivers gets confused on how to reach this hotel. So you can tell them it's infront of Balestier Towers
  • no cabinet
my room

I loved my stay in this hotel. If given a chance to stay in Singapore given a limited budget, I would stay here again.

TOURS/SITES

Given a limited time to play tourist, i was only able to do one tourist-y stuff.

River Cruise

Some friends and I spent the Sunday afternoon in Clarke Quay. First stop was the river cruise. Infairness, it was nice seeing some areas of Singapore from a different view. The ride took us around 30 - 45 minutes. I actually enjoyed it. hehe.

Brewerkz

After our river tour, we found ourselves in a pub! haha! apparently, Brewerkz brew their own beer and we were crazy enough to sample 8 types of their mix. happy hour! hahaha!

happy hour!

Titanic Artifact Exhibition

Titanic Exhibition showcased the 100th anniversary of the sunken ship at Marina Bay Sands. It was a limited and I was fortunate enough to be in Singapore to experience it. It was awesome! Good decision that I included watching the documentary. Taking photos were prohibited.

Chika: As soon as I got back to Jakarta, i watched Titanic in 3D! perfect combination! :)

FOOD

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant

As soon as i arrived in Singapore, which was very late at night, i included food trip as my number 1 to-do-list. and so, a friend picked me up and went to Clarke Quay to hit Jumbo Seafood Restaurant. It was a quick food trip as we came at almost closing time. hahaha!

Speaking of Jumbo Seafood Restaurant, my favorite was the cereal prawns!!!!! yummeh! spicy crab was ok also. hehe.

spicy crab, cereal prawns, fried rice and veggies

Thank you daddynorms sa lafang! -> miss you ninang!!!

Marche

My gracious singapore host and recruiter brought me to Marche at Somerset, Orchard. It was sooo cool! It was like an upscale market! An indoor food fair! Food looked and tasted good! I want to go back! hahaha!

Thank you amors! heehee :)

Din Tai Fung

Just a quick stop after our first day at the seminar. Finally tried the famous xiao long bao! it was actually yummy!

Final Thoughts about Singapore

I was fortunate enough to spend 3 days/3 nights in Singapore and this time it was a mix of work and play. What i like about my trips to Singapore is that everytime i come to visit, i always experience something new. So, i'm looking forward to another trip very very soon!!! :)
