West Java, Indonesia: Taman Safari

March 25, 2012

I am not a safari type of girl. I like oceanariums than zoo. However, when some of my co - workers planned on spending a day to see Indonesia's famous safari, I said yes in a heart beat. it would be nice to explore more of Indonesia's tourist friendly sites and be tourist once in a while.

so, off we go to Taman Safari

posing with my new pet :D

Our co - worker's boss let us used her car and just shared for the driver fee (~100,000 IDR), petrol (~50,000/each) and toll fees.

Drive from Jakarta was around ~1 1/2 - 2 hours. Traffic was manageable and we arrived just in time to catch all the activities and shows for the day.

Entrance fees:
Locals - ~80,000 IDR
Foreigners - ~150,000 IDR

Tip: buy carrots (for animal feeding) prior entering the park

It was a nice discovery that if you have a car you'll just have to follow the trail as animals are seen everywhere. Going out of your car is strictly prohibited and you can just give them the carrots when they go near to your car or just shoot straight to their mouths. hehe.

my favorite was seeing the zebras and giraffes. I dunno why but they looked so cool.

At the end of the trail is another part of the park where you can ride the tram to see the other areas uphill.

There was also a baby zoo where you can see other animals such as birds and have your photo taken with tigers and other animals. A fee of ~15,000 IDR/each animal is to be paid to have your photos taken with them.

Tip: Start clicking your cameras as soon as you gave your stub as they would only give you a few minutes with the animals.

Besides seeing giraffes and zebras, the highlights of our Taman Safari experience were the animal shows. My favorite was the tiger show! We were fortunate enough to watch almost all the good shows.

Tip: check the animal show schedule and map out your way to watch everything!

Kudos to Indonesia to have a cool tourist site for non - locals like us. Cheers for more Indonesia explorations :)
